Pinch Pot Vases Rubric

Objectives

Low Performance

Earned Points

Vases are created by putting two pinch pots together

10 Points

Student did not put two pots together or the seam is very visible.

15 Points

Student put two pots together, but you can still see the seam somewhat.

18 Points

Seam of pots is almost invisible.

20 Points

There is no visible seam at all on vase.

 

Sides of vases are 1/4 inch thick throughout.

10 Points

Thickness of sides of vases is 1/2 inch or more. It is a heavy vase.

15 Points

Sides of vases are about 1/4 inch thick but there is some unevenness.

18 Points

Sides of vases are about 1/4 inch throughout and almost perfectly even

20 Points

Sides of vases are 1/4 inch throughout and very even and smooth.

 

Vases are glazed inside and out.

10 Points

Glaze is very spotty and uneven. Inside may not even be glazed.

15 Points

Vases are glazed inside and out.

18 Points

Vases are glazed inside and out very evenly. Bottom edge not perfectly even.

20 Points

Vases are evenly glazed inside and out. Bottom of pot is neatly painted. No thin spots.

 

 

Designs are impressed into vase.

 

10 Points

Student did not impress designs into vases.

15 Points

Student impressed some designs into vase, but only a few; or student also scratched designs into vase.

18 Points

Designs are impressed neatly into vase.

20 Points

Student creates patterns within the side shapes. Student has taken the assignment a creative further step and has created more intricate designs in pottery by impressing objects.

 

General Craftsmanship

10 Points

Student made a sloppy attempt to create 2 vases.

15 Points

Vases are not extremely well-formed, but it is obvious that student has labored over them.

18 Points

Vases are neat; designs are neat. General craftsmanship is good.

 

20 Points

Vases are very neatly formed and craftsmanship is excellent.
